They are designed to have a shorter length to increase manoeuvrability (directional stability) .

Avoid capsizing in stagnant or slow moving water, or places where you believe rats live.

Wear foot protection, cover scratches and cuts with a waterproof dressing and shower after paddling.

Is it better to wear a lifejacket or buoyancy aid whilst paddling?

A buoyancy aid allows manoeuvrability in the water, with a small amount of warmth and padding.

A life jacket is cumbersome in the water - but will keep your head clear of the water. Hypothermia / First Aid

Why is it important not to paddle after drinking alcohol?

Alcohol causes the body to draw heat away from the trunk, encouraging hypothermia.

How can you treat cramp?

Rub the affected part, massaging and stretching against the spasm.
